Endangered Water

Water is fascinating—constantly changing, soothing and velvety, yet at times angry, dangerous, and unpredictable. It is also a fundamental element for life on Earth. Much like trees, water sustains life. Through physical-chemical transformations, water helps produce the oxygen we breathe. Tiny microscopic organisms called plankton, which are suspended in water, play a crucial role in this process. They convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into oxygen and support aquatic food webs.

However, the concentration of plankton in surface waters is estimated to have decreased by about 50%. To maintain the balance of ocean water, it is essential to reduce ocean acidity and control algal blooms. Pollution poses a major threat to our future. By contaminating water with oil spills, human waste, and hazardous chemicals, we endanger marine life, including fish and other underwater organisms. Life cannot exist without clean water.
